"During the 19th century, invention was seen as the product of genius, wayward, uncontrollable, often amateurish or if not genius, then of accident. People later began to realize that actually innovation could be organized and prepared for as was evident towards the beginning of the 20th century when many little clubs or coteries of leading minds in science and literally works were formed especially in England. The groups were formed to be friendly and scientific at the same time. The members were to exchange views with each other on topics relating to literature, arts and science each contributing his quota of entertainment and instruction. What these groups were involved in was in essence knowledge sharing where each individual had something to contribute towards the invention of something new. In this century, organizations are looking for all possible means to stimulate innovation. . This book gives an empirical account of how knowledge sharing fosters innovation in higher education".

The Electric Theories of J. Clerk Maxwell

In this volume Pierre Duhem first gives an overview of 19 th century electricity and magnetism. Next, he applies his keen historical, philosophical, and physical intuition to critiquing Maxwell's theories, especially his electromagnetic theory of light and the ad hoc introduction of displacement current, which he considers too much a product of the " esprit de géométrie " than the " esprit de finesse ," as Pascal calls it.In this book, Duhem is guided by the principle that a theory that offers contradictions, even if the theory is posed by a genius, needs to be analysed and discussed until a clear distinction can be made between the propositions likely to be logically demonstrated and statements that offend logic and which must be transformed or rejected.Furthermore, Duhem felt, in criticizing such a theory one must guard against narrowness of mind and petty corrections which would make one forget the merit of the inventor, and, more importantly, one must guard against the blind superstition which, for admiration of the author, would hide the serious defects of the work. He is not so great a genius that he surpasses the laws of reason.Pierre Duhem (1861-1916), chairman of theoretical physics at Bordeaux in 1984-1916, is well-known for his works in the history and philosophy of science.

Investigation of Allele Frequency in MTNR1A Gen...

This book predominantly focuses on the reproductive performance in ewes in different lambing month with record number and weight of lambs, detect polymorphism melatonin receptor 1A gene (MTNR1A) by PCR-RFLP associated with breeding out of season and correlated with prolactin hormone and investigation the association between MTNR1A polymorphisms with any variation in allele frequency of the mutations C606T and G612A in the sequence of the gene in local ewes. Blood samples were collected from 60 ewes from Agriculture Research-Ruminant Researches station in Baghdad. Genomic DNA was isolated from blood using a Genius TM Micro gDNA Extraction Kit. A large fragment of exon 2 of MTNR1A gene was amplified by PCR using specific primer pairs. The results showed that amplification fragment size 824 bp in 2% agarose gel and the PCR product was digested with RsaI enzyme. Restricted digestion allowed the determination of two alleles (R, r), and the PCR product was sequencing 20 samples of MTNR1A gene were performed by nicem, Result of alleles frequencies were 0.40 and 0.60 for the alleles R and r respectively. Genotype frequencies were RR (20%), Rr (40%) and rr (40%) in ewes with a significancy.
